INVITE: PHILLIPS WIDE PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED 2020 CITY OF MINNEAPOLIS PUBLIC SAFETY BUDGET!
(THURSDAY NOVEMBER 7TH, 6:00 TO 8:00 P.M. AT THE CENTER FOR CHANGING LIVES LOCATED AT 2400 PARK AVENUE, 1ST FLOOR CENTRUM ROOM)
The Phillips West Neighborhood Organization in partnership with other Phillips neighbors are concerned with the lack of Public Safety Resources in the 3rd Precinct, Sector 1 which is geographically defined by 94 to North, Hiawatha to the East, Lake Street to the South and 35W to the West. The Police Chief told the Mayor & City Council that the Police Department would need an additional 400 Police Officers to keep up with the demand of 911 calls. Mayor Jacob Frey is only proposing 14 new Police Officers in his 2020 Budget.
We want to reach out to as many people as we can about your crime concerns, and other problems you are experiencing.
The City Council is hosting only three Public Hearings on its 2020 Budget before final passage set to take place December 11th. One of those Hearings will be held in the middle of most people’s work day from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The others will be held in the evening December 4th and 11th. Last year residents waited up to seven hours to testify on the proposed budget. A lot of stakeholders have expressed the desire for more Police but are unable to make it to City Hall for a variety of reasons (time commitment, bullying from anti-police groups, transportation, cost of parking, etc.).
We need your help and support to make the neighborhood a safer place to live! Therefore we have decided to hold our own Public Hearing on Public Safety for Stakeholders of the four Phillips Neighborhoods & Little Earth. Somali TV will tape the hearing and we will send our video to each City Council member & the Mayor as our official testimony!
This event will take place Thursday November 7th, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Center for Changing Lives Building located at 2400 Park Avenue South, Centrum Room. Enter from the Oakland Avenue entrance (the Park Avenue Entrance will be locked). There is free parking in the adjacent Oakland Avenue lot. The Building is Wheelchair accessible. Snacks & Beverages will be provided. If you think crime is a serious issue please come and make your voice heard!
