Greetings,

Welcome to the new people on the list.

Here are a few updates for the coming week.

Please plan ahead and use 511mn.org for real time updates. Check the project web pages for detours and maps.

As always, closures are weather permitting and subject to change.

I-35W@94 http://www.dot.state.mn.us/35w94/

Crews are going to knock down the ramp from I-35W north to I-94 west while we have I-94 closed for the Whitney Bridge work this weekend. This will require the downtown access to be closed to and from I-35W north. I-35W north to I-94 west ramp will be closed until fall of 2021. The ramp to 11th Street and East Grant and Fifth Avenue is closed from 10 p.m. Friday, May 18 to 5 a.m. Monday May 21. Access to I-35W south is closed from Fourth Avenue and 12th Street.

Part of Stevens Avenue closed

Stevens Avenue between 38th Street and 39th Street will close Thursday until mid-August. Residents will have to access their homes from the alley or park on 39th. Crews are doing utility and noise wall work.

I-94 Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/i94brooklyncntr/

I-94 will close at 10 p.m. Friday, May 18 to 5 a.m. Monday, May 21 from I-394 to I-35W. Hennepin and Lyndale Avenues will also be closed from Oak Grove Street to Dunwoody Blvd during the weekend closure. This work is to continue the improvements to the Whitney Pedestrian Bridge over I-94 connecting Loring Park with the Sculpture Garden in Minneapolis.

The I-94 west ramp to Highway 55 will close for 30 days starting May 16 for bridge repairs.

Highway 7 http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/hwy7minnetonkaslp/index.html

The right turn from Fifth Avenue North in Hopkins to Highway 7 will close Wednesday until late August. Motorists seeking to go east should drive to the light and turn right.

Highway 62 34th Avenue Bridge

The 34th Avenue bridge over Highway 62 will close from May 16 to May 23. Walkers should use the 40th Avenue pedestrian bridge.

One lane of westbound Highway 62 will remain closed at 34th Avenue until June 15 while crews work on the bridge.

University Avenue Northeast (Highway 47) Minneapolis to Columbia Heights http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/hwy47mpls/

This remains closed from Lowry Avenue NE in Minneapolis to 44th Avenue in Columbia Heights. On Saturday, 40th Avenue opened crossing University and 37th Avenue was closed crossing University.

Highway 169 Champlin http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/hwy169champlin/

Highway 169 traffic is shifted to the northbound side with one lane going in each direction from Highway 610 to the Mississippi River. We are reminding motorists to please be good neighbors and not drive through city streets. Please stick to state highways. City streets are not designed for highway traffic and it creates safety concerns for people who live on them.

More lane, ramps closures coming in June for I-35W, plan now:

In June, more lanes, ramps and access to and from downtown Minneapolis will close as part of the I-35@94 project. You will be able to get to downtown Minneapolis. I-35W will be reduced to five lanes with two lanes for everyone going north and a MnPass lane to 31st Street and two lanes going south. Three northbound lanes will be open from 31st to Third Street.

Please consider alternatives to driving. Now is a good time to start planning. We have some resources to help people make the transition.

Metro Transit has a website dedicated to the project with updated route information and an opportunity to sign up for Rider Alerts. Metro Transit has added routes, buses and Portland and Park Avenues have been striped to accommodate express buses starting in June. The web page is www.metrotransit.org/35W

For route updates from Minnesota Valley Transit Authority, go to www.mvta.com.

Move Minneapolis assists employers with transitioning employees to carpooling, riding the bus, train or bicycle. People who carpool can get a construction special and park in the ABC ramps in downtown Minneapolis for $20 a month if they live in an approved area. Watch for details coming out on this month. Contact Move Minneapolis for more information and to apply.

eWorkplace assists employers in helping employees telecommute.

If these options do not fit your lifestyle or schedule, consider an alternate route.

If you do not live in Minneapolis, traffic should stay on stay highways. Highway 62 west to Highway 100 north to Highway 55 east will get you to I-94 west and Highway 100 to I-394 east will take you to downtown Minneapolis. Highway 100 to I-394 east to I-94 east will get you back to I-35W north to avoid the congestion on I-35W.

From the north, I-94 east to I-394 west to Highway 100 south to Highway 62 east will get drivers back to I-35W south.

Whatever option you select, please plan ahead and allow for extra time.

Thank you for your help spreading the word and thank you for your patience with these closures.

Please let me know if you have questions.

Thanks

Dave
