Please use state highways when going around closures. City streets are not designed for highway traffic.
I-94 Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center:
I-94 will be closed from I-35W to Highway 55 at 10 p.m. Friday, May 11 to 5 a.m. Monday, May 14. The closure is a bit longer (in distance) this weekend because the I-35W@94 project has I-394 west closed from downtown to Hwy 100 for lane striping. Check the web page for detours and maps.
Hennepin and Lyndale Avenues will also be closed from Oak Grove Street to Dunwoody Blvd. This work is to continue the improvements to the Whitney Pedestrian Bridge over I-94 connecting Loring Park with the Sculpture Garden in Minneapolis.
MnDOT will also be washing the Lowry Tunnel while the freeway is closed.
The Whitney Bridge will remain closed to walkers and bicyclists until August.
Watch for overnight single or double lane closures during the week for work on the Whitney Bridge. Check 511 for details.
The I-394 east to I-94 west ramp remains closed until mid-June.
Coming up: I-94 west ramp to Highway 55 will close May 16 for about 30 days.
I-394 west is closed from downtown Minneapolis to Highway 100 at 10 p.m. Friday, May 11 to 5 a.m. Monday, May 14
This is to stripe an additional lane for when lanes on I-35W are closed starting in June.
Detour: From I-94 east, Hwy 55 to Hwy 100 to I-394
From I-94 west: Hwy 280 north to I-35W to I-694
From downtown Minneapolis: Use HOV lane.
The ramp from 12th Street to I-35W south is closed to single-occupancy cars through mid-June.
Fourth Avenue remains closed between 12th and 14th Streets until mid –June.
During the I-94 closure May 18-21, crews will remove the I-35W to I-94 west ramp. This will require the closure of Highway 65 (downtown access) in and out of downtown to 5th and Grant and 11th Street. This ramp will be closed until the end of the project in fall of 2021. Please plan an alternate route.
Highway 62 at 34th Ave Bridge
MnDOT is doing some repairs to the 34th Avenue bridge over Highway 62 in Minneapolis. Westbound Highway 62 will be reduced to one lane at 34th Avenue this weekend until June 15. The distance of the closure is short but still could cause some delays. Plan for extra time.
Eastbound Highway 62 will be reduced to one lane at the 34th Street Bridge from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.
The 34th Avenue bridge will be closed for a week starting at 12:01 May 16 until May 23.
Highway 7 St. Louis Park to Minnetonka, Eden Prairie http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/hwy7minnetonkaslp/index.html
This project starts May 14. It will resurface Highway 7 from I-494 to Baker Road just east of I-494. This will require some off-peak lane closures of Highway 7 but no full closures. Five intersections are getting work as well and this could require closures and detours. The first is at the end of the month. We will update you as things get closer.
Start planning options for June closures:
In June, more lanes, ramps and access to and from downtown Minneapolis will close as part of the I-35@94 project. Please consider alternatives to driving. Now is a good time to start planning. We have some resources to help people make the transition.
Metro Transit has a website dedicated to the project with updated route information and an opportunity to sign up for Rider Alerts. The web page is www.metrotransit.org/35W
