I-94 Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center
Weather has delayed the closure of the I-394 east to I-94 west ramp closure until April 23. Crews will be doing repairs under the bridge. This project will take about two months. It was originally scheduled to start April 16. The ramp from Lyndale Avenue S to I-94 west is also closed for two months
starting April 23. As always, weather can change plans. A fact sheet for the I-94 Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center and Whitney bridge project is attached. Detour maps can be found on the web page.
The plan is to close the ramp from I-94 west to 11th Street for two months starting at 6 a.m. April 16, weather permitting. That plan remains in place as of Tuesday. A fact sheet about the 11th Street ramp closure is also attached.
The Franklin Avenue bridge will remain closed until late May, early June. The 38th Street bridge will remain closed until early August. The 26th Street bridge will close soon after the Franklin Avenue bridge reopens. A fact sheet for the I-35W@94 Downtown to Crosstown is attached.
Upcoming short-term closures:
This project will have single lane and overnight closures throughout the duration of the project.
*I-94 west will be reduced to one lane 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday from Chicago Avenue to First Avenue.
*I-35W north will be closed from Highway 62 to I-94 at 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 to 5 a.m. Thursday, April 19.
*I-35W south will be closed from I-94 to Highway 62 from 10 p.m. Thursday, April 19 to 5 a.m. Friday, April 20.
Please plan ahead and give yourself extra time to reach your destination.
All these closures are weather permitting.
Start planning options for June closures:
In June, more lanes, ramps and access to and from downtown Minneapolis will close as part of the I-35@94 project. Please consider alternatives to driving. Now is a good time to start planning. We have some resources to help people make the transition.
