Greetings,

This is an email to update you on the I-94 Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center and I-35W@94 project. Plus, we have an update about a northeast Minneapolis project scheduled to start later this month. It’s possible the cold temps and potential snow could disrupt plans. We will keep you posted.

I-94 Minneapolis to Brooklyn Center

This is year two of the project. It is expected to resume this month. The tentative plan is to close the I-394 east ramp to I-94 west April 16 to June 8.

The ramp from I-94 west to Highway 55 is scheduled to close May 4 until June 8. Check out the web page for maps and detours. As always, weather can adjust these plans. We will keep you updated.

The ramp from northbound Lyndale Ave to westbound I-94 will close mid-April to mid-June.

Also this spring and summer, the plan is to make improvements to the Whitney Bridge that connects Loring Park to the Sculpture Garden. This will require a minimum of three weekend closures of I-94 from I-35W to I-394. The bridge will be closed to walkers and bikers for about two months. We will provide dates and details when they are available.

I-35W@94 Downtown to Crosstown

This project will continue to see overnight and daytime lane closures moving forward. Check the web page and 511 for updates.

A closure planned for tonight is postponed. The access to southbound I-35W out of downtown from 12th St. to Fourth Avenue, and the ramp from eastbound I-94 to southbound I-35W will now be closed until from 10 p.m. Monday, April 9 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, weather permitting.

The next significant closure is scheduled for April 16 when the ramp from I-94 west to 11th Street is closed for about two months. This is weather permitting. I have attached a fact sheet that includes a detour map. General fact sheets with a schedule and a map for stage 2 are also attached.

University Avenue Minneapolis to Columbia Heights http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/hwy47mpls/

This project is resurfacing University Avenue from 27th Avenue in Minneapolis to Columbia Heights. It will require a full closure in late April of University from Lowry Avenue to 44th for about two months. The detour is Central Avenue. We will have more information after April 11. A fact sheet and schedule can be found on the web page.

Alternatives to Driving:

In June, more lanes, ramps and access to and from downtown Minneapolis will close as part of the I-35@94 project. Please consider alternatives to driving. Now is a good time to start planning. We have some resources to help people make the transition.

Metro Transit has a website dedicated to the project with updated route information and an opportunity to sign up for Rider Alerts. The web page is www.metrotransit.org/35W
