MnDOT: I-35W@94 Downtown to Crosstown update

I want to provide some updates about some lane closures related to MnDOT’s I-35W project going on south of Downtown in Minneapolis.

Here is the project web page.

Please encourage people connected with your organization, group or business to sign up for updates on this project.

You will find an updated schedule for all four years of the project linked at the bottom of the page.

MnDOT and a consultant working for the construction company on MnDOT’s behalf have been speaking to groups about the project and about the need to encourage employees to arrange for alternative transportation or telework during this project. If you would like to have someone speak to your group, please let me know and we will schedule it.

MnDOT is working closely with Metro Transit, Move Minneapolis to promote alternative forms of transportation and eWorkplace to provide employers with resources to help employees work from home once or twice a week.

MnDOT can help you set up meetings with these organization if you would like.

Construction updates:

MnDOT and the city of Minneapolis are working to modify a city street to allow another access to I-94 east while the Super Bowl street restrictions are in place. The plan is to make some signal and curb changes to 13th Avenue South. This will allow access to the ramp to eastbound I-94 using Eighth Street and 13th Avenue.

To make the changes, 13th Avenue between Sixth and Eighth streets will be closed starting today until Jan. 13.

*The stretch of highway from I-35W to the downtown exits for Fifth Avenue Southeast and Grant Street and the ramp from I-35W north to I-94 west will be closed from midnight to 5 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11. A detour will be posted.

*Crews will be paving in the same area next week and will need to close a lane leading to downtown from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for several days.

*MnDOT is working to open the dynamic MnPass shoulder leading to downtown in time for the Super Bowl festivities, which start Jan. 26. This will provide three lanes into downtown.

*With the exception of I-94 access from Eighth Street and opening the MnPass shoulder on the access road from I-35W to downtown, I-35W should look like it does now when the Super Bowl events begin.

You can stay up to date with all MnDOT projects on its web site. Here is the link to current projects:
